Our Indigenous Business
TEC Automation is more than just an electrical automation business, we are also an Indigenous one. Our founder, co-director and majority owner Soraya Smith is an Indigenous women and is passionate about growing the capacity of her Indigenous business, and other businesses like hers. She was born and raised locally in Darwin, Northern Territory, having descended of the Butchulla People who are Traditional Owners of K’Gari – formally known as Fraser Island. Soraya also has family ties to North Queensland and Ambrym Island, Vanuatu. TEC Automation is certified through both Supply Nation as well as the Northern Territory Indigenous Business Network (NTIBN).
As well as being Indigenous owned, TEC Automation is also dedicated to the hiring and training of Indigenous apprentices and trainees. We believe that opportunity is an enormous obstacle for many young Indigenous people, so we work to provide as much as we can for those we take under our banner. Currently around 40% of our staff are Aboriginal people, and we are always looking to grow our team, and in doing so our capacity. Alongside our own business and our hiring approach is the way we view our community. We recognise that TEC Automation would not be here today without the community that has supported us and helped us to grow, so we work to give back through community engagement programs such as sponsorship, mentoring and more.
Indigenous Owned
As a business, TEC Automation is proud to be 51% Indigenous owned by our founder and co-director Soraya Smith. We believe our history gives us a unique advantage and perspective on our industry and business ownership in general.
